Etsy Gift Guide

The holidays are my favorite time of year. I love it all. The lights, the cheesy music, time spent with family and friends, desserts, the red Starbucks cups, and holiday themed everything. I really could go on and on, but then I’d cut into my time watching the past Gossip Girl Christmas specials. So yes, you could add TV Christmas specials to my list of holiday favorites. No shame!

I always have so much fun picking out fun gifts for friends and family. If you’re stumped feel free to take a look at this etsy gift guide I’ve come up with. The great thing about getting gifts from etsy, is the likely hood they already have it is slim, and It’s always good to support the artists and small (often one man run) businesses out there. And everything on this gift guide is budget friendly, being under $50. In fact most is under $25. Hope you enjoy. I know that these are all thing I'd love to give or to receive.

Houses of the Holy

Outfit Details:
Cardigan- Grandmothers Closet
T-shirt- Target
Leggings- Love Culture

Shot this near the downtown Seattle library the other day, with the fabulous KT ENG. First time I’ve shot with her, but had a great time & hope to do it again. You can check out her blog here.

The cross leggings immediately brought to mind “Houses of the Holy” by Led Zeppelin. They give off real rock n’ roll vibe. And when channeling rock n’ roll I always think it’s best to go with the classics. & speaking of classics, the cardigan was another inheritance from my grandmother, Loretta Mae. I’ve been getting a lot of use out of this cardigan lately; it seems to be a good twist on grunge looks. Which, by the way I have fallen head over heels in love with soft grunge. So expect to see a bit more of it here on the blog.

I’ve been working on a couple gift guides that will be up later this week, so stay tuned!

It's a Trap-eze

More often than not, it’s the simple things in life that bring me joy. Yesterday this rang true; I picked up a new nail polish and was ecstatic. I had seen a few reviews of the China Glaze: Cirque De Soleil collection, and was instantly attracted. This was due partly to my recent interest in nail art, and because I’ll admit I’m a sucker for just about any capsule collection. I was drawn to the shade “It’s A Trap-eze”. I have wanted a nail polish loaded with chunky glitter for quite some time, and I love the milky white base. My finger are looking as fly as the trapeze act. (I can’t help but be a little cheesy once in a while.)

*Note: I used two coats of the nail polish in the above photos.

PLNDR

Here are the purchases I made from PLNDR today! PLNDR is a sister site of Karmaloop, offering sales on high street brands, such as Style Hunter and Members Only. I frequently shop this site, and am constantly drooling over all the goodies they offer. I'm crazy excited to get these in the mail. The shades are a tongue in cheek nod to Willie Wonka. The boots are to die for and were part of a buy one get one free sale & I decided on the color block top as the freebie, as I am in dire need of long sleeves. Expect to see these items featured in outfit posts at a later date.

My purchases from plndr

Below are a few more of my favorite items PLNDR is offering right now. They are a sale site, so inventory is always changing but it never disappoints. I'm digging the third eye sunnies, and the studded leopard print sneakers. (How perfect for the wildcat!)plnder must haves

You can sign up and start shopping by clicking the link below.

Fall Baking: Mini Apple Pies

As fall has rolled around, baking season has began! I decided to make these mini apple pies to kick off my fall baking. Similar to a full sized apple pie, but of course miniature anything captures my attention. There is a certain cute element to it that I crave.

Ingredients

Crust:
1 3/4 cups of flour
1/2 cup of butter
2 tablespoons of sugar
2 teaspoons of baking powder
2 eggs
1/4 cup of vanilla soy milk (you can also add 1/4 teaspoon vanilla to regular milk)

Filling:
2 large apples (I used cameos)
1 teaspoon ground ginger
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons of sugar

Topping:
1 beaten egg
1-2 tablespoons of cinnamon and sugar

1. Preheat oven to 425. For the crust mix the flour and butter in a large bowl. Mix in the sugar and baking powder. Combine the egg and milk in a separate bowl, and mix well. Then mix it into the flour mixture until dough forms. Then cover and set aside.

2. Peel and core the apples. Chop into small cubes (varied in size, from between 1/8th of an inch to 1/2 inch squares and rectangles) Place them into a bowl, then stir in the ginger, cinnamon, and sugar.

3. Roll the dough on a floured surface, into a rectangular shape, about as thick as a pie crust. Cut the dough into squares roughly 4 by 4 inches. Put a heaping spoonful of the apple mixture into the center of your squares. Brush the beaten egg onto the edges of the dough, then fold the corners of the dough to the middle, so they cover the apple filling. Pinch the edges together to seal.

4. Place the filled squares on an un-greased baking sheet. For the topping brush the tops of the squares with the remaining beaten egg, and sprinkle with the cinnamon and sugar. Bake until lightly browned, about 10-15 mins. Cool the pies for a few minutes and serve warm.

I hope you enjoy these, and I'd love to hear about what you have been baking this fall.

Heartbeats- The Knife

 Sweater- Thrifted
Leggings- Target
Necklaces- Vintage
Bracelets- Swap Meet
Earrings- Betsey Johnson

I suppose the indian summer ended today. We've been having sunny warm days, but they've been accompanied by crisp cool mornings and evenings. Today stayed grey, gloomy, and cold, so I'm taking that as a sign that the fall weather is here, and the time has come to toss on sweaters. Love this one I picked up for 99 cents thrifting. And in the spirit of justifying my laziness, and blaming the weather, I haven't left the house today :O Oh, and regarding the name of this post. The song has been stuck in my head, and I think I've listened to it about 5 times today! <3 br="br">

ST. VINCENT de PAUL

So. I absolutely love thrifting. I had heard that at a local thiftstore, ST. VINCENT de PAUL, all apparel is 99 cents on Sundays. So I decided to check it out, and was so happy that I did. It's a smaller thrift store, and believe that most of the items are likely donated by little old ladies, which is probably why I loved it. I thought this labrador brooch that doubles as a necklace pendant was just darling.
I picked up this over sized mint sweater that I plan to wear belted with leggings. I'm a sucker for anything resembling a mermaid, and the color fit the ticket. The knit pattern reminds me a bit of fish scales, giving it bonus mermaid points. My favorite find was this light pink sweater, with a rose pattern on it. I've already worn it with velvet leggings, and am imagining all the future potential it has. Paired with high-waist shorts. Colored leggings. Colored skinnys. Pencil skirts. So much potential here. The best part of my thrifting trip? My total was only $3.24. Money in my pocket, and clothes in my wardrobe. What are some of your best thrifting finds? I'd love to see pics, so send me links if you have any.

ModMint

Modmint is a cute little shop here on the web and they’d like me to share some of my favorites with you. I absolutely love this Aztec cuff, and feel like it would look good with just about anything. These earrings caught my eye, as most oversized chandelier earrings do. I have so many pairs, it might be a problem. I feel like these are a bit fancier then most of mine, which tend to lean more toward casual. However I plan to keep fancy in mind in my accessory shopping. Cold weather tends to make me want to dress up. & the sweater is perfect. Leggings and oversized sweaters a cold weather go-to for comfy days sipping hot cider.

As soon as I saw this dress, I figured it would be perfect for Halloween. It’s very nautical, and would work well paired with a sailor hat, red lipstick, and some black pumps. Or to go more modern and less pin-up esqu, throw on some boat shoes and a blazer. I already have some other costume ideas in mind but still wanted to put this one out there.

& I'd love to know some of your Halloween ideas.
